[ARCHIVED] From the Mayor’s Desk…September 8, 2014

September 11 Ceremony

On Thursday, September 11 at 8:30 a.m., I will have the privilege of leading a ceremony to honor those who lost their lives to the tragic terror events of September 11, 2001. It is also our opportunity to thank the first responders of our Village who answered the call that day and every day since. The ceremony will be held in the southern end of Scenic Hudson Park. All are welcome.

Langdon Avenue Speed Humps

Mercy College operates partially within the Village of Irvington under a special permit issued by our Planning Board. As part of the most recent renewal of that permit, Mercy College agreed to donate funds to the Village to be used for the installation of speed humps on Langdon Avenue. After many years of study, it was agreed speed humps could be effective in reducing both the traffic volume and speed on Langdon Avenue. Much of the vehicle traffic is attributed to students who attend Mercy College. I am pleased to report that the speed humps were installed in July and I’m hopeful that there will be an improvement in the quality of life in that neighborhood.

Theater New Website

Add a redesigned web site to the list of changes taking place in the Irvington Town Hall Theater! New Theater Manager Greg Allen unveiled a sleek, up-to-date design to complement the top notch programming available in our hidden gem. Take a look at and while you’re at it, “Like” the Town Hall Theater on Facebook ( and follow them on Twitter (@ITH_Theater) too.

Dog Walkers

I’d like to take the opportunity to remind residents that in accordance with the Village Code, all dogs must be on a leash when in public places. This includes the trails of the Irvington Woods. In addition, it is strongly recommended that no individual be in control of more than 3 dogs at any time. There have been some concerning incidents over the summer with large numbers of unleashed dogs. While tragedy was avoided, these incidents can be easily prevented if we follow the laws.

As an owner of two dogs, I understand the desire to let dogs run free and play together. I am working with the Recreation Department to pursue the goal of developing a dog park where we can allow unleashed dogs to run free. I ask that you please continue to keep your dogs on a leash until this is accomplished. If you have interest in working on the dog park, please email me.

Save the Date: ROCKTOBERFEST! October 11th, 2014

While we will be sending you a lot more information in the near future, I wanted to officially announce the exciting new FACE-sponsored event, Rocktoberfest. We plan to bring you a day of fun, music, food and beer. We just signed on local brewer Captain Lawrence as the official beer provider, as well as scheduled local musical talent like Gil Parris as well as U2 cover band “Unforgettable Fire.” Hopefully, Saturday October 11th will be the start of a great new tradition in Irvington as we look to raise some money, but more importantly, to have a great time.

I hope to see you around the Village, please never hesitate to contact me with thoughts and concerns.
