[ARCHIVED] From the Mayor's Desk...October 31, 2012

Important information about Con Edison, our drinking water, garbage pickup and Halloween.

I have a few important topics to cover so I will be as brief as possible in my commentary.

First, we have been in close contact with Con Edison who have advised us that they are in “site safety” mode and not “restoration” mode at the present time. They are currently addressing important safety issues such as downed wires throughout the region, including over 1,000 blocked roads in Westchester alone. Power restoration will take place once the important safety issues are addressed. Although they have not given an estimated time for restoration, my advice to those residents currently without power is to prepare for at least several more days without power.

Second, our drinking water supply is safe and was never threatened by the storm. There is no boil water alert. Our Water Department constantly tests our water supply and test results are reported to the Westchester County Department of Health.

Third, the Department of Public Works will resume its regular garbage pickup schedule tomorrow (Thursday) and thereafter.

Lastly, please refrain from Trick or Treating tonight! No Mayor wants to cancel Halloween, but it is just too dangerous on many of our roads to have young kids outside in the dark. Besides, we have a fun event planned at the Fire House on Friday (11/2), so just tell your kids that the Mayor changed the date of Halloween.
