Matthiessen Park Rules Meeting
As I reported back in September, the Board of Trustees postponed a Recreation and Parks Advisory Committee meeting that was scheduled to discuss proposed rule changes in our parks, including the possibility of opening Matthiessen Park to non-residents.
Since then, my colleagues and I have decided to schedule a public meeting to be held on December 11, 2019 at 7pm in Village Hall. The purpose of the meeting is so we can report back about our research into the deeds and hear feedback from the Recreation and Parks Advisory Committee, our department heads, and members of our community about the future management of Matthiessen Park.
While we look forward to hearing from our community in person, we welcome your comments in writing, as well. Please send your comments to Village Administrator Lawrence Schopfer at LSchopfer@irvingtonny.gov or by mail to 85 Main Street, Irvington, NY 10533.
Turkey Trot
The Peter Oley Turkey Trot is this Sunday! Registration starts at 11:45am in the Dows Lane Gym. The race starts at 1:30pm. A new “Chip” scoring system is being used this year, which should significantly improve our efficiency. Residents should expect traffic delays, especially on Broadway, on Sunday from 1:30pm to 3:00pm.
Holiday Happening – Saturday, December 7th
The Holiday Happening Committee is excited about the plans for the event on December 7th. You’ll soon find out about all of the great events planned for that day, so watch for a postcard in the mail. I’ve heard the day includes a “Best Decorated” storefront contest, live entertainment, and of course our Christmas tree lighting. Incidentally, the live entertainment and tree lighting will be held at the Village Hall Plaza. What a great use of that newly-renovated space. Watch your mailbox (and you’re your e-mailbox) for details.
Thanks for reading my email and have a very nice Thanksgiving!
Sincerely,
Brian C. Smith, Mayor
