[ARCHIVED] New Downtown Parking Rules Go Into Effect April 1

Last month, after considerable review and research, the Board of Trustees voted to adjust the parking regulations in the Main Street / downtown area.  The last significant change in parking regulations was the introduction of the Main Street Residential Parking Permit system nearly 20 years ago.  The newly enacted changes represent the first comprehensive overhaul of parking regulations in nearly 40 years.

The revisions include:

  • Allowing overnight parking on Main Street and all side streets.
  • Increasing the hourly parking limit on Main Street (east of Cottenet Street) from 1 hour to 2 hours.
  • Reducing the hourly parking limit from 6 hours to 2 hours on roughly half of the downtown side streets, specifically the western side (closest to the River) of each side streets.  The 6 hour limit is maintained on the eastern side of each side street.
  • Reconfiguring the availability of 6 hour parking near the Irvington train station while preserving the parking needs of nearby residents.
  • Providing additional short-term parking near Matthiessen Park.

On-street signage will be updated to reflect the new parking regulations by April 1 and a summary map is available to help with the transition.  Residents, employees, and visitors are advised to carefully examine the signage to ensure compliance with the new regulations.

Questions can be directed to Lawrence Schopfer, Village Administrator.
