The Irvington Historical Society presents a talk by author Russell Shorto, "America’s Founding in Six Remarkable Lives," on Friday, November 9th, 7 pm., at the Main Street School.
In his epic new book, Revolution Song, Russell Shorto looks back to the early American nation, drawing on diaries, letters, and autobiographies to flesh out six lives that cast the era in a new light. They include an African man who freed himself from slavery, a rebellious young woman who abandoned an abusive husband, and a certain Mr. Washington admired for his dignity and leadership but often criticized as a military strategist.
A powerful narrative and brilliant defense of American values, Revolution Song makes the compelling case that the American Revolution is still being fought today for ideals worth defending.
Russell Shorto, a contributing writer for The New York Times Magazine, is also the best-selling author of The Island at the Center of the World.
