First, I would like to thank you for re-electing me on Tuesday. Although it is my fourth term, I am just as honored and excited to serve as mayor for another two year term as I was for my first. While the lack of an opponent did not create the typical healthy dialogue around an election, I hope you will never hesitate to send me your thoughts, concerns or questions at any time.
Veterans Day
Veterans Day falls on a Saturday this year, so I am confident we will have a large turnout at the Village Ceremony to honor the men and women of the United States military. The ceremony starts at 10:45am at the newly updated monument plaza on Main Street. Please try to take half an hour out of your long weekend to express your gratitude to the greatest group of Americans, our veterans.
Playwright Festival at the Irvington Town Hall Theater
There has been a lot of exciting programing recently at the Irvington Town Hall Theater (“ITHT”), including the sold out As iFF Film Festival and Clocktower Players’ 40th Anniversary presentation of Stephen Sondheim’s “Company.” This weekend holds yet another great theatrical experience right here in our village as the theater will hold its first ever Theater Festival: the ITHT Stage Door Playwright Festival. This festival grew from the ITHT stage door reading series the past few seasons and creates an exploratory laboratory for playwrights to try out their works in front of an audience. Each session will end with a Q&A where audiences can talk with the playwrights about what they just saw. So, over the two days, you will get to see eight brand new works, some presented publicly for the first time. Also, due to the generosity of an anonymous donor, the festival is completely free to the public! The Festival showings are at 3pm and 7:30pm on Saturday and 12:30pm and 3:30pm on Sunday. Come warm up with some great theater (for free!).
For details on the playwrights and timing, please check out the Festival’s website here:http://www.irvingtontheater.com/theatre-festival
While some of the material is not suitable for children, there are family friendly offerings. Again, please check the website for details.
Thanks again,
Brian C. Smith, Mayor
