Village of Irvington
* Updated July 2, 2015 *
Due to heightened security concerns this year in the New York metropolitan area, the Irvington Police Department, in cooperation with the Village Administration and the Recreation and Parks Department, will be implementing measures aimed at keeping the Fourth of July fireworks safe and fun. These measures apply to Matthiessen Park only.
Matthiessen Park will close at 10:00pm on Friday, July 3 and will open at 7:00am on Saturday, July 4, the regular opening time. Matthiessen Park will be open all day on July 4, but with some security restrictions as follows:
• One limited section of the park nearest the entrance will be closed all day. This area will be marked with yellow tape. Picnic tables from this area will be relocated to other areas of the park for public use. However, no cooking or open fires will be permitted.
• The playground and surrounding areas will be open until 6:00pm. The playgrounds in Scenic Hudson Park will be open.
• Backpacks, coolers, or large packages will be checked. In an effort to speed up entry into Matthiessen Park, those without such items will be able to enter more quickly.
• Park permits are required to enter the park. Permits are available free of charge from the Irvington Recreation Department office. The office will be open from 10am to 1pm on Friday, July 3. Check www.irvingtonny.gov/recreation for more information.
Except for these limited restrictions, residents and their guests, as always, can expect to experience an enjoyable day and an evening of fireworks. Your cooperation is greatly appreciated.
