Chanukah Happening Comes to Main Street

Irvington is a Village with a proud history of wonderful events for families, residents and visitors. I am happy to write about an additional great event for us to enjoy as the Chabad of the Rivertowns has chosen Irvington as home base for their new tradition: the Chanukah Happening. Led by Rabbi Benjy Silverman, the Chabad has worked closely with our Main Street store owners to create an atmosphere of family fun. Events are planned on December 21, 2014 from 1PM to 4PM, including a Menorah lighting on the steps of Village Hall at 4PM. For complete details, visit www.chabadrt.org.

Snow Removal Reminder

If you own property that has a sidewalk adjacent to it, you are responsible for making the sidewalks adjacent to your property safe for pedestrians.

Depending on where you live, snow and ice must be cleared by specific times as follows:

• Owners of Property in the Main Street Area (see definition below**)
Sidewalk must be cleared of snow and ice by 9AM and 4PM each day, whether or not snow is still falling.

• Owners of Property outside of the Main Street Area
Sidewalk must be clear of snow and ice within 12 hours after the snow ceases falling.

If the snow and/or ice become so solid that they cannot be removed, then you are required to spread clean ashes, sand or other material to enable a person to walk safely on the sidewalk.

If the Village declares a snow emergency, then the requirements to clear the sidewalk are suspended until the emergency is lifted. The Village will notify residents of such an emergency through its email notifications, website and cable channel. In addition, the Police Department (non-emergency telephone # 591-8080) will be aware of the emergency declaration.

**MAIN STREET AREA – the area including the following streets: the entire length of Main Street; North Broadway from Main Street to the High School entrance; South Broadway from Main Street to 14 South Broadway; the entire length of South Astor Street; and North Astor Street from Main Street to 22 North Astor Street.

I’d like to wish everyone a Happy Chanukah, a Merry Christmas, and a very happy New Year! I hope to see you around the Village, please never hesitate to contact me with thoughts and concerns.
