Main Street Paving
If you’ve been down Main Street this week, you probably noticed contractors cutting the pavement and preparing for paving. The contractors, working for Con Edison, are there getting ready to do final restoration of the pavement. Since last year’s gas main replacement, the upper portion of Main Street and Broadway has resembled the surface of the moon in some spots.
About one-third of the width of the road will be repaved from Broadway down to Ferris Street along with a portion of the side streets that were dug up. The one exception to this will be in front of the war monuments, where the roadway will be repaved curb-to-curb.
While this paving work could have been done about 6 weeks ago, we chose to wait for the summer while school is out. Hopefully, the annoyances will be kept to a minimum and we can all put away our Lunar Rovers.
I want to personally congratulate Irvington High School students Lexi Weintraub and Sharon Draytsel for their efforts in creating the Legacy Project. The project involved photographing and cataloguing each memorial plaque in Scenic Hudson Park. They reached out to each family that placed a memorial plaque and asked them to provide additional thoughts to be shared about their loved one. The pictures and thoughts, which are now posted on the Village web site, can now be shared with loved ones throughout the world!
Thank you also to Laura Coapman and Mike Dinardo of the Recreation and Parks Department and Karen Buccheri in the Administrator’s Office for their help with this project.
